Meet the Author

Hello, I’m Lindsey McGoun! 💙

I’m a mum, a carer and the creator of My Picture Communication Books by Picture It My Way.

My inspiration for creating these books came from my youngest son, Jacob, who is autistic and non-verbal.

As Jacob’s mum, I’ve experienced firsthand how important communication is, even when words aren’t possible.

Like so many parents of non-verbal children, I’ve learned that communication comes in many different forms. A look, a gesture, a picture or simply taking someone’s hand can mean so much.

Watching Jacob learn to use pictures to express his wants and needs inspired me to create something that could help other children and their families.

I wanted to make books that were colourful, engaging and simple to follow. Books that children could enjoy with their grown-ups while exploring picture communication in a fun and meaningful way.

That’s how My Picture Communication Books began.

Each story introduces everyday pictures and encourages children to find, recognise and use them to communicate. The books are designed to be enjoyed together, allowing every child to participate in their own way and at their own pace.

I’m not a speech and language therapist or an educational professional. I’m simply a mum who wanted to turn her own experiences into something that might help other families.

My hope is that these books will find their way into homes, schools and other settings, helping children discover new ways to express themselves and helping grown-ups recognise and celebrate every little step.

Because every child deserves to be heard, even without words.
